Crucial video. Kudos to you. Just imagine if human beings stopped this irrational obsessive behavior toward these...other human beings in the public eye??? The thing is these celebrities rely on some of these behaviors for the ego boost and career success they gain. Without it, they'd likely go insane as well.

I loved this show very much when it was on. I am glad you cover these gems from yesteryear, thanks! I related most to Mona because she was funny, personable and artistically inclined. Though the show was a sitcom, the sad undertones of family division the father caused bothered me.

You can see the opposite in the episode where Mona has fond memories of her paternal grandmother but Dee Dee thinks the woman hates her.

Great video!! So much of TV, historically, has provided us with sugar-coated "let's make up right now" outcomes juxtaposed against heavy realistic conflicts. That's for ratings lol. In real life, there's no way Joan would have remained friends with Toni after the knee-jerk reaction sleeping with the boyfriend moment. There was a whole lot Joan let slide for years and it was probably due to the obligation she thought she owed to Toni because of Toni's childhood traumas. Toni thought she possessed Joan on some level, to be honest.

When this show came on (around 2004 to 2006ish), I was watching this show when I was in college. In 2005, I found out that I had an older (about 5 years) sister through my late father. After that, I was able to relate better to this show because it was an awkward moment between my the "uncovered" secrets. Mona was my favorite in the show and I thought that she was beautiful.

Mona was my favorite between the two and even as a younger human i recognized the subtle inferences of how they were pushing DeeDee as prettier or more attractive. When both girls are beautiful.

Welcome to my dissertation. Have a seat and a snack 😂 To start- I love Mona's bohemian and grunge style, as well as her gorgeous figure and big bouncy curls ❤ As for Mona's personality, I liked her- but boy was she annoying. I loved her bubbly and goofy side, but I don't have much patience for whininess and needless stubbornness. Mona was like a broken record; her victim mentality wasn't always valid and it rapidly grew old for me. That being said, I completely understand how she became that way. As you said, she faced constant ridicule from everyone and neglect from her father her entire life. She deserved far better from both parents and her stepmother. Phyllis' behaviour made her codependent and filled her spirit with pessimism, low self worth, desperation for male validation, and partially misplaced resentment. Charles' behaviour gave her an abandonment wound and also filled her spirit with everything Phyllis' behaviour did. Big Dee Dee's poor parenting of Dee Dee during Mona's childhood significantly contributed to Mona's misery as well. Neither she nor Charles addressed Dee Dee's brattiness, which is why Phyllis was justified in refusing unsupervised visitation. IMO, Being physically near them while ignored by her dad and terrorized by Dee Dee was worse than being left out from afar. However, let's not forget Charles' financial absence during Mona's childhood was partially Phyllis' fault. Mona could have had the same lifestyle and Phyllis was foul for refusing funds that belonged to her. Phyllis was a terrible parent. She's only redeemable because she did her best and had mostly good intentions. She's only somewhat likeable because of her kind side as well as her actress' humor and charm. Big Dee Dee was a terrible stepmother who's only redeemable because she did her best and somewhat likeable by way of her kind side and as well actress' humor and charm . I think she felt indifferent toward Mona until Season 2, then grew to love her. Dee Dee was a poor sister until Season 2, due to her incessant insults, bragging, and disrespect of Mona's boundaries. I like Dee Dee, but she was annoying too lol I'm glad Mona's relationships with both Dee Dees improved. Spencer was the definition of a scrub lol I recall the episode where he announced his he bought his condo with the money he saved from leeching off of Mona 🙃 He was an insensitive, unreliable user, not a true friend. Girl, I didn't get the appeal either 😂 I agree that Charles was the worst of all, because his actions caused the most pain and discord throughout their family. He barely improved as a husband and father, and was given far too much leniency. I'd have liked a short arc of him actively bonding with Mona, followed by an consistent flow of cameos where he's checking in on her or she's seeking his advice. Scenes of guests at his and Big Dee's events mentioning him bragging about her, how cute would that be. I know the show needed drama, but I wish it hadn't come in the form of Mona experiencing severe emotional harm and constant financial instability. If it weren't a sitcom with snappy writing, it'd be VERY dark.

First, getting a reusable cup as a gift is like the equivalent of getting underwear and socks as far as I'm concerned. How sad and superficial their lives are. Also, these young girls are going to be spending a fortune on a dermatologist before they even get out of puberty because they will have destroyed their skin's natural defenses.

Regina thought she was above being targeted lol just bc she was the dominant plastic. She had wealth, charisma, pretty privilege, & good game(she knew how to play the system). Only reason why she’s been getting away w/ being mean is because everybody has been enabling and rewarding her for too long. She felt unstoppable.

Mona is a my favorite I can relate with her on some things not everything I agree though….remember when she dated those cousins one said she was too white for him and she dated Lorenzo and he would give her all kinds of compliments and she would brush them to the side my dad and my sister are the same way they want me to have a relationship sooooo bad and I’m just chilling not to say aint nothing wrong with that but still though it’s things I’m trying to do out here

Surprisingly, as a child in the early 2000s I never saw this show originally. Not sure how I missed it amongst other shows like moesha, the Parker’s, and one on one. I recently ended up finding and watching it on RUclips and I loved Mona. I wish they spent more time developing her character arc where she was allowed to be a main character. Similar to real life, Mona’s character was always meant to be the smarter, wiser, but frequently unheard and misunderstood counterpart to her sister’s immature nonsense. But she was always a sidekick even in her own story lines. But I loved her, I related to her in some ways. I absolutely loved her style! She serves as an inspo for many of my current outfits! Idk how to describe it but very alternative-boho, and stylistically that’s what I lean into. Many an episode had been clipped and put on my mood board. Love your analysis!!

That's one of the things that almost made me not want to finish watching the show. Not only her treatment but the way her father acted towards her was atrocious. It's no way that you're not doing the same stuff that you did for one child for the other. I don't give a damn if he didn't like her mother anymore that was his baby and he should have treated her the same way as his other child.
